“I am so appreciative of what Laura and Glenda have created and produced as a Canadian resource document, to house our thoughts, wishes and personal information in one booklet so those we entrust to complete our end of living plans will have a comprehensive and manageable tool to assist them.”

How many of us seriously think about dying or becoming incapacitated? Not easy subjects to face into, yet they are such important considerations both for ourselves and for the important people in our lives. This book is a wonderful guide in that it assists us in recording the specific information others will need in order to support us during illness, accidents, or even if we’re away travelling. It’s an invaluable resource for that inevitable moment that most of us tend to block out….our own moment of death.
I had been quite pleased with myself in getting my will thought out and prepared, especially given my second husband isn’t the father of my children…… until I saw this incredibly detailed book. I hadn’t even conceived of all the things that are needed in circumstances where our usual capacities are no longer available. Data such as pin numbers for everything from bank accounts to our computers, names of our medical advisers, email addresses and phone numbers for people who would need to know about our difficult conditions, to name just a few.
This book, by taking us step by step through every piece of vital information our spouses, partner, children, or friends would need to know in case of an emergency, makes this important job much easier. I have such gratitude that Laura Fines and Glenda Leznoff put so much care and heart into this necessary book.

I can’t say how helpful it was to my family in a time of crises to be able to have the benefit of the information in this book.
In late 2011 and early 2012, my 93 year old mother in law was assessed for three months in a seniors program at Vancouver Hospital. She was confirmed able to continue to live alone in her apartment. Thanks to Laura who was researching and compiling the information she needed for this book, we knew in spite of her assessment report, that we had to start to plan for her future.
However, by June of 2012 she started to physically deteriorate quickly and she was also starting to show some signs of dementia. She finally agreed that the time had come for her to move into a seniors facility. It really happened much quicker than we expected. Thanks to Laura, we had at least taken her to our list of possible facilities so we were able to determine what would suit her best. We were extremely fortunate that we had put her name on the list for a suitable facility and there was an opening on September 1, 2012.
However, that was the easy part. The difficulty was the actual move including her financial status (she had many bank accounts which we needed to consolidate) and dealing with her condo including obtaining new insurance, deciding what to take and how to dispose of what was left behind. It was really hard for her to decide what to keep, what to give away and who should get what.
Thanks to this book and my many conversations with Laura were able to complete the move so there was little stress on my mother in law. However, the stress on our family was just unbelievable. If we had this book we would have started much sooner, and for the record we would have had a guide of how to start the process and what exactly needed to be done. Also, my mother in law would have been more active in the process.
My mother in law is happily ensconsed in her new home and she has no idea of the stress this caused her family including shingles, rashes and high blood pressure. For this reason, I am now starting all the planning needed for my own final phase of life.

This manual is absolutely brilliant. I am recommending it to everyone I know. It contains lists of, and places for, every sort of information that the person looking after your affairs would need if you became incapacitated, that your executor would be infinitely grateful for if you died, and that you might be glad to be able to access quickly yourself in an emergency. I am filling out two – one for my executor and one for my power of attorney, and keeping a copy for myself. I am choosing to do this instead of having one in a safe place in my own keeping. And what I appreciate particularly is that I don’t have to worry over what sort of information I need to record; the authors have done that for me. THANK YOU Laura and Glenda!
